Available Glass Types
Standard Annealed Glass
Also known as Plate Glass, this glass is cast through a roller or floating process. It is extremely flat and free of distortion. It is very brittle and when it breaks it produces shards of glass which could injure a person. This glass is typically high in iron which gives it a greenish tint.
Cinefire Annealed Glass
This type of hardened glass is lead free and low in iron. It is extremely clear with no color distortion. It is very brittle and when it breaks it produces shards of glass which could injure a person.
Tempered Glass
This is a type of safety glass that is manufactured by an extreme heating and rapid cooling process. This process makes the glass 4-5 times harder than standard glass. This glass is designed to shatter without sharp edges. Because of the heating and cooling process, tempered glass will not be completely flat.
Available Edge Finishes
Seamed edges are a standard glass finish and thus a less expensive finish for glass edges. Edges of glass are lighty sanded (seamed) to remove any sharpness for safer handling. The seamed edge finish is for applications where edges are not exposed. For example if glass is to be framed or edges will not be visible. Flat Polished edges are slightly beveled edges that are polished for a smooth finish. Flat Polished Edges are more expensive, yet more economical, if edges will be visible and you prefer a minimalistic look. The beveled edges are commonly called an “Arris” and are around 1/8” wide. The standard width of the “Arris” works for most applications but when tighter tolerance is needed, please request “Flat Polish +0/-.001.NOTE: The above described edge finishes are the two most commonly used finished for glass screen projects. Other edge finishes are available if you have a special project. Please call our office at 714-547-5477 for more information.
